We stayed at ft wilderness last August. It was great. The pool was wonderful and dd loved the water slide and kiddie pool area. There aS easy access to buses, and nice big sites. Downfall was the narrow twisty campground roads on the loops, we had a tight spot to back into on the 1300 loop but it was a great location close to everything. There are buses that take you around the campground. We rented a golf cart and did not regret it. You will be tired at the end of a day at the parks and will not want to ride your bikes back to the site tired and in the dark. The horseback riding is not cheap but the pony rides are cheap. My 6 yr old DD loved the pony rides and the chip and Dale bonfire (no campfires allowed at your site though). You can watch the magic kingdom fireworks from the beach and they even play the music and sounds (you just don't get to see the rest of the show like think flying etc).
I strongly suggest you check out Fortfiends.net. They can tell you everything there is to know about the fort from campsites to golf carts, to best time to do anything. They even have an app for your smartphone that has pics and measurements of every site there. They can tell you how to reserve a specific site. We tried to reserve a loop but when we got there it wasn't ready yet. We had a choice, wait in overflow and use all amenities until site ready (they text you when it's ready) or take a site somewhere else we didn't want to be. I looked the site up on my app and didn't like it, so we chose to wait for the 1300 loop. Glad we did. Our trip was absolutely magical for our 6 yr old who met every princess (pm me, I will tell you where and how to meet all of them relatively quickly). Now if your wife wants no part of camping, then you may be stuck with a hotel. I will tell you while ft wilderness was nice to do once, we will probably use our time share next time to stay off property for cheaper. I still would have done ft wilderness at least once if I had it to do again.
