OK, that was interesting.
Guess I'll try and address a few points.
1. Noise. The biggee. Apparently many of you skipped over the part where I said I did not want loud. So I'll repeat - I do not want loud. I've done loud. I once had a 2-stroke 3-cylinder bike with pipes that could break glass. Loud is fun but not when you drive for several hours. I just don't want this truck to be soooo quiet. A purrr would be nice though. And even after I get done, my truck will still be way quieter then one of those older Dodge Cummins trucks. My buddy had one. Great truck but I could not walk up and have a conversation with him even at idle.
2. I AM a grandfather. And some of us still fondly remember what a 440 6-pak Super Bee sounds like going down the street.
3. Prius folks. How about a sense of humor ? I was just having a little fun. Soooo . . . how much HP does a Prius have anyway ?
4. I was amazed when I watched a video of someone doing an install of a DPF back exhaust on one of these trucks. There is just a little resonator near the end of the OEM pipes. Most all of the loud noise reduction appears to happen before it gets to that resonator. The 'sponge' probably accomplishes most of that but I've always thought that turbo engines were quieter to begin with too.
5. The end tip does include vents so the exhaust is cooled just like the OEM system. You just can't see the vents, unlike the OEM tip. Looks like Ford used a big beer can opener to make the stock vents.
A little more on the loud issue. In the CG I'm in now there are several trucks with non-OEM exhaust, but I can only think of one that I think most everyone considers over the top. There are also several Harleys. And how many of those have ANY kind of muffled exhaust ? NONE. But I guess that's OK, well, because it's a Harley. And the last time I was awakened by a loud exhaust it was because the guy next to me started up the Cummins in his Class A at 0530 so he could get a jump on traffic. He sure was popular with a lot of people that day.
*midnightsadie. If you're going to beat me up, you should at least spell 'Prius' correctly.
** Mbutts - Thanks for the suggestion.
***ib516. You're right. There is a good video of this system being installed, along with the sound of the exhaust. And I really doubt that anyone here would call it 'loud'.
