Mine automatically stay at 5psi all the time.
Far as inflation pressure, I like to run at 40 psi. Removes all the sway in curves, not that there is a lot anyway, my TC isn't all that heavy.
Far as longevity goes, I installed mine in 1999 on my '97 F 350 and they have never been fiddled with at all. Think the reason is the 5 PSI static pressure. The bags never rub themselves.
