I have been doing a little more research and found that the "unsprung weight" (stuff on the ground---tires, wheels, etc) is the biggest killer of MPG and performance. Looks like going to oversize tires and wheels hurts the mph and is power robbing too.
Anyway, I looked at the actual published weight of several tires, and the Firestone Transforce HT weighs in at 50 pounds, and the Cooper AT3's are about 54-56, depending on the site.
The BFG KO2's are about 58 pounds, and are the heaviest AT tire I found.
Overall, there is not that much difference, I guess.
While I'll probably go with the Coopers, I really like the look of the new KO2's....if they weren't so loud?!?!?!
