Am I crazy?

OK, for those of you that actually know me, no fair to answer that!!!

Maybe it's a mid life crisis, ha, MID life?? If I live to 140!!!

Recently I have been toying with the idea of going back to a larger TC and diesel truck. But just getting home from a camping trip in the SE Oregon Owyhee Desert a stock diesel TC would still be sitting there, stuck!! I've got a lot of money in my truck and for a full size, street legal truck it is very capable off road. A spring chicken with 40K on the clock.

So, what's the problem? Power!! When DW comes along we have to take her Nash TT and if I want to bring the boat it's double tow. This was no problem with our previous smaller TT but the Nash is 2000# heavier so I haven't even welded up a hitch on it for the boat as I know how it would struggle up the passes. A diesel would fix that problem but I would have to "build" another truck and I don't want to do that. $$$

Solution: Rousch Supercharger. 600 HP!!!! :B :B :@ :@

    Real problem is too many toys you want to take with you while make the DW happy. Solution is to limit yourself to one of three choices: TC, TC w/boat, or DW w/Nash.

    The super charger on an engine not designed for it and used for towing is going to equal trouble. First will be over heating issues because the radiator isn't big enough, than transmission trouble because the cooling and bands are designed for the power, etc. Be cheaper in the long run to buy a new truck.

    Alternative would be to buy an older diesel truck for the few occassions when you want to take the Nash and boat. (oh yeah, the DW but why? j/k)

    Yes, you are crazy.

    Did you forget about the issues of stress on the transmission and the rest of the drive train? You also need to address the issues for cooling also. Will the engine be able to handle the power? (i.e. blown head gaskets, blown heads, cracked/broken crankshaft etc etc etc)

    Call me a Debbie Downer, but I do like the idea!

    The solution is a gooseneck trailer with a large lavish TC up front and the boat with its trailer strapped down in the rear. You dump the gooseneck where you'd normally dump your wife in the Nash, and hit the trail in your now-empty truck, or unload the boat and tow it to the river/lake.

    Keep your off-road TC for solo trips.

    If you can afford it and you will enjoy it, why not spend the money you saved over your lifetime? Is it a goal to leave as much as possible to others once you die?

    If your doing ok and have a decent retirement plan buy yourself something to make it work for you. How much weight are you combined? A heavy diesel setup to pull what I can only assume 9k+ and your TC is going to suck offroad anyway. Mine goes where I want without lockers and a winch. If I had those I still wouldn't take it there. Maybe a solution is a quad or sxs to have fun on the trails?

    I know I had sticker shock at the new trucks too...yikes. Keeping mine and spending the difference on a boat. Lol

    Oh and I feel your pain in the passes. I was passing cars this weekend over the pass. Back in my powerstruggle days (95 F350 powerstroke) it was 35-38 mph over the same pass...it sucks but you know what? I got there.
