Can't figure out why they got rid of them for what they have now. If they would had put the current 3.2s in them, they would had been a real winner and fast!
I think they're trying to be more fuel efficient, so newer Jeep models are sleeker. They figure they can appeal to a fuel conscious commuter, rather than off road or towing capabilities. The bigger grand Cherokee and smaller wrangler are 2 different markets, while the liberty was sort of in between. I think it's a great balance though, and with a name like liberty? Yep, I'll take it
I think you are right. The patriot and compass and renegade almost hit the same market of small jeeps though. Wrangler is a pig at 4500+ lbs, and imo, grossly overpriced. The Patriot was probably the direct replacement for the Liberty, but tanked it with the styling. All three small suvs are not very manly looking. The Cherokee is not anything like my 98 XJ which is a shame since it was great looking and capable. The Grand Cherokee is a nice car, but expensive too. Just not real impressed with the current direction they are going with them.
i think the Cherokee is the actual Liberty replacement (well the Liberty was the Cherokee before, now its back to Cherokee) but the new styling to me is terrible. And I agree, compass/patriot/renegade pretty much same market, kind of strange.
