My wife and I owned a medium sized transportation company on the east coast a few years back. I switched my fleet to Amsoil at the recommendation of my head mechanic, as a cost saving measure. Within the first 90 days, we lost a diesel engine due to lubrication breakdown, according to the analysis done by the lab. Amsoil reluctantly replaced the engine, so I thought all was well, NOT. Within another 30 days, we lost a transmission in another unit and the lab report said lubricant breakdown again. With that failure and Amsoil refusal to replace the transmission, we switched back to our original products and never had another failure, in the hundreds of thousands of miles driven, while I owned the company. Like I said, IMO, it is nothing but a snake oil and a clever marketing scheme.

Those guys over there at BITOG are very knowledgeable about this stuff. It's easy to get lost in some of the conversations there about oil.

I intended to use Mobile 1 as I have had great service from Mobile 1 in the past. Since Mobile 1 is not Chrysler MS-6395N compliant I went with Amsoil. Cost is not a major factor as the price between 6 quarts of Mobile 1 and 6 Quarts of Amsoil OE is negligible.

Not a fan of Quaker State or Pennsoil. Valvoline and Casterol have served me well in the past. I even ran Supertec for years in a 2002 Impala with no problems.

This is my first experience with Amsoil... So we will see how it goes. This is the nicest vehicle we have ever owned so I am splurging some on it. Probably will do the same with my Laramie Ram I hope to buy in the next year or so too.

Jeremiah-If your paying more for Amsoil and using those change intervals there are many, many oils that will do as good. More info at-

I will be doing UOA's periodically...but I will not be going with a 25k mile OCI...this Amsoil OE is a 10k ish max oil. It's designed to work with OLM's and to be changed when the OLM says too...it will still be changed at 5-7k miles in my driveway.

If your going for 1 year oil changes are you sending your oil away for used oil analysis?

No, I do not trust the OLM for 300k mile service life. I intend to keep this van for at least 10 years or 300k miles ish. Oil is cheap... Motors are not.

I also will change the transmission fluid, coolant, belt, and plugs at 50k miles regardless of the service interval.

Brakes as needed... Lol
