I bet if you dig into it, there were people that died when thier 6.0 ran away. I have a freind that had 2 different 6.0's that did it but he was able to stop and let them scatter themselves.
If your referring to diesel run away that ONLY happens with very high mileage engines that the cylinder walls are wore so bad that they suck all of the oil from the crankcase and use it as fuel. Unlike the Toyota the Ford can quickly be thrown into neutral and stopped, but nice try. BTW EVERY diesel engine can have this happen no matter the flavor.
As far as Ford not issuing recalls yep there was the Firestone tire fiasco and the Pinto. But nevadanick was talking about Ford's 6.0, I100% the Escape or the pinto never had a 6.0 diesel engine.
BTW since the GM boys think I'm bashing their flavor lets look at GM's record. This is not the first time GM has tried to hide a design flaw that killed their customers! The Pick-up with the outboard fuel tank comes to mind and that is a tow vehicle. If you look at my first post I said "At least they are fixing the issues" this was not meant as a bash thread, you guys turned it into one.
Have to say I looked hard but could not find one time that Chrysler has ever been accused of doing this. The closest was when the rear gate popped open in a rear end crash back in 1994 with a 1985 van. Chrysler recalled all of the vans replaced the latch and Lee Iaccoca apologized to his customers.
"Nationwide, at least 37 passengers were killed in accidents in which they were ejected when the rear liftgates opened on Chrysler Town and Country vehicles, Dodge Caravans or Plymouth Voyager minivans sold from 1984 through 1995, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration records. At least 134 back-seat passengers have been ejected." LINK As a side note Fords Aerostar had a liftgate recall also, they replaced the sturts and latch on my 1992.
Yes every car company will have recalls, it's how they handle them that makes the difference. Both Ford and GM have failed miserably, it looks like GM has learned from this as Ford did.
