Anode rod necessary ?

I only use my 22ft travel trailer on weekends, 2 or 3 nights. 6gal water heater. If I drain my hot water tank after every use, is an anode rod really necessary ?
  • I would keep the anode and leave the water in the tank between trips. Do it for the same reasons you dont drain your home WH when you leave.
Also, unless you suck the water out, even after you drain it there will be a puddle in the bottom. That water will work on eating the botom of the tank since the anode isn't in-play.
  • No, you can let the tank desolve. Maybe a short nipple, a "Tee" and a valve at the bottom of tee?
