another one going to the dark side

The only downside to our making the change to the TT when we did was that we had just put new tires on the HTT before our FL trip in March....we sold it in May. Oh, well. We got a good price, sweet young couple with an adorable 3 year old, their first camper and SOOOOO excited! I think we recouped the money spent on the tires if not in cash, in knowing they were happy and would be safe. They live about 3 hours from us and hoping to see them this summer at LBL.

I retired in August, at which time we ordered a little 20' 5th so we can do the long distance travel thing too. Dark side? maybe, I'm having 8 windows put in and 2 sky lights so it won't be too bad.

Haven't decided what to do with the HTT yet, still have a couple fishing trips to go in it.

well, we had planned on a 5th wheel also but we'd have to buy a different tow vehicle, along with the 5th wheel.
so, we're thinking of just getting a TT that the Avalanche can tow. but the DW isn't happy with the limited choices, especially when comparing a TT, with the amount of room that a 5th wheel can offer.
if we like the lifestyle, then we would move to a 5th wheel after a couple of years.
we like the Columbus 370FL but it's huge and will limit where we can stay, compared to a 28' TT.

We just wanted a separate bed area, seems one of us is either up before the birds or the other is up for hours in the middle of the night. I had bought the truck in 2012 trying to be as universal as I could, not knowing what was to come next.

unfortunately, we may be moving to the Dark Side, also.

but this is due to changes in how we will be camping, since we're retiring this year and not because we're tired of the canvas thing.
we plan on leaving in the wet winters in Washington and traveling for about 3 months thru the southwest and south.
having a TT will make it easier to move from place to place.

That is exactly the reason we were starting to look at going to a regular trailer. It was becoming a chore to put the pugs on, make the bed etc., not to mention the bunk ends in the rain. Yes i will miss parts of it as well but not that much. :B We had planned to wait another couple of years before making the switch. I had planned to put new tires on this year and get 2 new batteries. WOW that was an expensive set of tires and batteries. :h Like you i can't see us ever going the motor home route but keep in mind i get reminded on a consistant basis that i once said you would never get me out of a tent. :S

Oh yes i can recall a few of those myself, last fall we were camped in the fall for 8 days in a private campground and there wasn't many campers middle part of the week. I was out walking the dog late one evening at the opposite end of the campground when i walked by a popup i heard alot of sounds and words that i'm sure they would have been embarressed out of there mind had they knew i was walking the dog within ear shot.:W

Well, I do have to admit, it's fun walking the campground after dark, mostly to walk the dog (you know what I mean), and when passing by tents and hybrids, sometimes I break out laughing (I actually embarrass myself)because I hear some of the most unusual snoring patterns, talking in sleep mumblings, passing of the "gas" moments, and sometimes ... some ... oh-la-la going on! No, I'm not a "peeping tom", I a "hearing tom!" But when the "obvious" is occurring, its hard not to hear it, especially in the quiet of the night!

We like the idea of sleeping under the tent ends. That's why we chose a HTT rather than a TT. That being said at my age I wouldn't want to switch any way because I find more interesting things to do with our money. We still get to go every place TT's and MH's can go so we are happy.

I love sleeping under the tent ends however the DW does excercise her enfluence from time to time. :h Thats not to say i'm not going to enjoy the new one, there are advantages and disadvantages to both.
