Isn't it possible to just find a used rear diff if it goes out as your did? Like at a junk yard instead of paying the 2k you paid?
I did think of that but at this stage of life I'm content with paying someone to do some things like this and when it comes to my truck, it's nothing but the best!
Also I like the idea of brand new OEM center section and LSD parts.
I also like the way they totally disassembled the axles and diff to steam clean everything out and make sure there were no more bits floating around in there. They also installed new axle and pinion seals.
Cost varies with quality of parts (oem or not) and labor rates but if your gears are OK and they use OEM parts then it will be well over a grand as the carrier itself is probably around $800.
