Any 12 valve Cummins guys left out there?

I have a 24 valve 2001. Love to hear that rattle when going down the road. Remembering our 1959, 262 cummins with a huge air research turbo that would whistle up when you poured on the coal till fire shot out the stacks 2 feet. 262 was the horsepower and we pulled 79,000 pounds. Also that rattle says "NO PAYMENTS"

Huh? A 12 valve? Not to my ears. I only test drove the 1989 and 1991 models, but had daily experience listening to the he 95 and 96 12 valves. All of the 12 valves between 1989 through 1996/97 were deafeningly loud compared to any 7.3L from 94 through 03.

As pointed out in the posts above, some guys just like the sound of the Cummins 12 valves so much better, it is music to their ears, and as such seems quieter. Like a symphony of mechanical brute force. But go try and idle one at 1 am for 2 or 3 minutes in a campground, and watch the how the day night shades wrinkle with disgruntled people peeking at the disturbance. It will take 5 or 6 minutes of idling to cause the same stir with a 7.3L.

Today's diesels, on the other hand, could idle all night and no one would hear, or smell them.

You could be pushing over 300hp for less than $100:
Grind your fuel plate down or even just take it off. - FREE
Advance the timing 16°. - FREE
Install 3k Gov spring kit - $79.99

Not recommended by me but if you want you can increase boost by restricting the waste gate by installing a boost elbow. - $4.

I wouldnt even consider injectors until you have done all this.
The above mods will REALLY wake that thing up. Adding after market injectors starts vetting you into the 400hp range.

All these mods are dependant upon a drivetrain sturdy enough to handle the increased torque.

A simple cheap mod for your truck that will net you 35 more HP and at least 1mpg better is a set of new Bosch 215 injectors.

i miss my 93 12v d250, but when it rusted in half the body had to go..the engine's sitting in the barn waiting to go into it's new home.

can't beat a 12 valve.

Thats awesome! Ive got 348K on my '94 and have never had to repair a single engine component except when I broke the fuel filter.

I like the sound and don't mind the smoke, especially if I'm being tailgated by a convertible...thats always fun...LOL! Seriously though, 99% of the time nobody would ever see any smoke from my rig.

My neighbor converted his Ford PS to waste vegetable oil and it smell like egg rolls :)
