Any last comments and or thoughts on Lance 1172???

Hello all,

I've returned home from Afghanistan and am about to pull the trigger on a new Lance 1172. I've yet been able to speak to a 1172 owner but if any of you are out there please call, share thoughts etc before I pull the trigger on this one!!!

We have looked at numerous campers to include other brands but keep returning to the Lance....that said if there are new 2013+ Lance owners who don't like the new 2013 mods and adjustments please let me know soonest as I think we'll be picking up unit this weekend or early next week before I cross station to the east coast.

Thanks

  • the most important thing is do not accept the unit if there is even one thing wrong with it. Do a complete test of EVERYTHING before sitting down with the salesman. As long as you are holding the BIG check you are in control. Once you leave with it you will hear the "make an appt with the service dept". Don't even go with your truck on that day. Take your car. They will know you are serious. I went thru this this when I was buying a 45K cedar creek fifth wheel. They had to send it back to the factory there were so many problems. The owner of the dealership was "shocked" that I was refusing it. I told him you guys should have never accepted when the driver delivered it. Maybe if more and more of these shoddy work campers kept getting returned to the factory at their expense they would start doing more quality control. The term "its good enough" is not in my vocabulary. Mike
  • G'day Tim,

From Australia, we thank you too, keep up the great work.

Is your Ram, single rear wheel or Dually rear wheel?

Dual Rear wheel will handle this camper, Lance 1172 very well.

But, checkout Adventurer & Eagle Cap, go to, www.amlrv.com.au

Also go to Truck Camper Magazine, www.truckcmpermagazine.com

A very good source of unbiased information

    Good luck!
  • Be sure you check everything out. I mean everything. From front to rear.
  • Tim,

First and most important- THANK YOU for your service to our country. You folks put it all on the line and we appreciate what you do for us.

To add to Fred's post, be aware of weight. While I don't own an 1172, we do have a 2012 Lance 855S. The Lance website shows the 855S base weight of 2650#. With the fresh water tank and propane full plus groceries, kitchen equipment and minimal personal gear (we avoid bringing all kinds of extra stuff along) our camper is right around 3500#.

So keep an eye on weight- just filling the 1172 fresh and propane tanks will put you over 4000# and I think once you are ready to travel, you will easily be between 4500# and 5000#, possibly over.

But if you have the truck that can handle this weight, you have chosen a great TC- this is our 4th TC and third different brand. Lance quality is up there with the others.

Best of luck with it and happy traveling.

  • Hi,

I was just looking up the specs, here. http://www.lancecamper.com/lance-1172-truck-camper-specs.php?model=1172 and see it is 3,600 pounds + +

So I hope you have a dually to carry it. Are you planning on using it while driving cross country? Do you plan on towing a trailer with more stuff in it? The reason I ask is do you know about the torquelift trailer hitch? It has dual 2" receivers, and two bars able to make towing a horse trailer with a 48" extension safe and stable.

All that I have ever heard about Lance is they are a very high quality built unit, and that usually means it is a heavy camper.

    Fred.
