The previous post was made a while back while we were negotiating for the Lance 880. I'd like to add some thoughts now that I have it home.
There are lots of positive aspects in my mind to this "downgrade. " first and foremost would be no payments. Paid cash and own it outright. That really leads to the 2nd big advantage: I'm not afraid to work on it! With the 981 I let the dealer do everything but the most mundane chore. That certainly had its disadvantages if an emergency arose in the middle of nowhere. With the older camper I feel I already know it's systems better even though I've only had it home for a week.
Next advantage is the weight. I have a Dually that's capable of handling a TC with a slide but the weight of the old camper without slide is considerably less and it obvious when driving. From the brochures it appears the difference in weight between my 981 and the present 880 is about 800# and that's a bunch. The choices for new TC's without a slide is severely limited as it is for all other types of RV's.
Sure there are things I'll miss, but these advantages may well outweigh the positives. We'll see.
