Has anyone considered installing a true door inside? We have a "bedroom" separated by a privacy curtain, and the opening is just right where I think we could put a true door. 4 kids sleep up front with our 90lb german shepherd. Living in the travel trailer while we build our house and have about 6 months left to go. We get the bedroom in the back. The door isn't so much for privacy, but because our dog is getting into our room when we aren't home, jumping on our bed (has never been allowed on furniture), to look out the windows, and he's broken the safety latch on one window from shoving the curtains up with his nose so he can watch for us to come home. We also end up sleeping on a fur coat.Anyone ever done anything like this and could it feasibly be done?

don't know why it couldn't be done depending on your carpentry skills. my BIL widened his bathroom door. bumpy

Sure it can be done...You might have to beef up the framing a bit. RVs are not 2x4 studs etc

ow about a folding door like some RV use or a real RV door. Both are much lighter than a true house door.

Baby gate ? My DH wanted a door to the bedroom to replace the curtain but we could not fit a one piece door between the needed width when closed and the available space when opened. The door would have blocked needed openings when open. Using 2 thinner doors would have worked but then the wall studding prohibited that. An accordion door is an option, but we find them cheap looking.

The Home Depot sells 28" wide interior doors. They offer a choice of a plain or 6 panel door. These are also available with or without the Hinge and Knob cutouts.

I'd plan for pretty big gaps (roughly 4") at the top and bottom to maintain climate control once the door is closed.

Your dog must be feeling a lot of stress to be doing what he knows he should not do. Could you get a sheet to put on top of your bed during the day and pull the curtain back so he does not have to do it himself?
When we left our cat we pulled the blinds up and laid his blanky where he could watch for us.

I had a fabric accordion door in mine. Bought a 28" HC flat panel door form the big box. I had to trim the door and frame, ditch the molding and make it fit. It takes a slow hand; measure carefully and use lots of screws. I stained it something close to the rest of the wood. Only other trick is I have to jam something between the top of the door and frame when on the road. There is just not enough wood left to support everything when it's bouncing down the road. 2 years later and it's still there and the latch works fine.

I built my bathroom door. It is about 18" Wide. I used two louvered cabinet doors and the combination hinges from the bottom and top with sets of swinging door hinges mounted on the floor and ceiling. A barrel bolt completes the hardware.

If you have a wider opening, you can buy a small door and cut it down in height to fit the opening.

Actually he was/is completely trained. Much more than most dogs. He is 2 1/2. However we went from a big house to a tiny camper. He is a bit stressed when his whole family leaves him to go outside, especially since almost all the windows are covered, the one in our bedroom is the only vessel he has to see outside, and it faces where we park the cars.
And even if we wanted to crate him again, the crate does not fit in the camper.
