Hey guys. Im debating moving into my TC. Its a 9'6". Im wondering if anyone lives/full times in their TC and has enough room for the essentials and doesn't go stir crazy lol.
I used to full time when working in Alberta,in summers only though,
parked at WM or trucks stops,or on job sites.
never got bored as I always go out to eat, library or bookstore to use the net,
Y to exercise and malls to meet people...and even if I have nothing to do it never bothers me,I just relax and watch the world go by..lol - jefe_4x4ExplorerThere are some notable, but 'below the radar' full-timers on here. Jeanie and I are not going to full-time, but want to make a bucket circumnavigation of the lower 48 in the next few years taking 12 to 16 weeks to do it. I guess we would be part-timers, and we would be in vogue at the moment. Monkey 44 seems like a good one to talk to to see what and how they do it. If Monkey 44 is what I think it is, then jefe 43 is a year older.
I have found that the lifestyle of full-timers is wildly diverse, with some toting around lavish domiciles and plug-ins every night, to 'bare bones', Bohemian-style travel with little outside help or expense. To each his/her own.
Are there any full-time truck campers that have a blog or journal besides Aimless? This would be instructive.
regards, as always, jefe - AimlessWanderLuExplorerWe currently live in our TC. It's a large, older Lance with no slides. Quite frankly, it's too big for us (Wife, myself and 45lb. dog). We are looking to downsize, but will probably just live in this one for a year or so.
Sure, you have to be careful to limit the amount of "stuff" you have, but we greatly enjoy the sense of freedom by living with so few possessions. - monkey44Nomad III did it for almost three years, traveling the USA and Canada ... now, we do it together (w/GF) but we also have a condo in Florida. We don't spend a lot of time there - and mostly use it as a home-base to plan trips.
We're now on the road again for another four or five months. WE have an 8'6" Lance. We spend our time in FHU military campgrounds, or state and national parks w/o HU usually. We occasionally stay over at rest stops when traveling from on destination to another.
Never yet had any inclination to get a bigger RV, or to stop doing what we do. We are seniors, and no pets. - EycomExplorerI currently full time (solo) in an 04 Lance 1121 purchased that same year. Started out as an extended traveler averaging 30-35k miles/yr for business trips, primarily up and down the east coast in all four seasons. Nearly three years ago, a little problem with my ticker gave me issue to pause. Too healthy to retire, yet needing to reduce stress, I chose camping, sans the commute.
It's been tolerable for the past three years. I've camped mostly at Fed/State/City&County parks and reduced my mileage by nearly 2/3s while working. The TC has pretty easily allowed me to travel, work and live off grid up north for a week or two at a time during the winter months.
However, at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 25 days with one prescription being a diuretic, there are a couple of things about my camper that's started to bug me. First, I'd like more room for a Barcalounger and secondly, rappelling from the bed to the floor 3 times a night to get to the bathroom is a PIA. You really need to be awake during that ordeal. And of course, you will be awake by the time you return to bed.:B
The full time lifestyle has offered a lot of freedom and less stress, in my case, even while still working. And the TC has best suited my overall needs to date. However, change is on the horizon.:C - dbblsExplorerI have only seen one TC that I would consider living in. It was a Host with three slides. The one in the back held a comfortable recliner which for me would be a requirement. The booth is OK for eating but not lounging.
- ralphnjoannExplorerI lived in a tent trailer for 14 months with no problems whatsoever. It depends more on the person, not the amount of space or "essentials." Only you can determine that. Good luck.
- FarmerjonExplorerI have lived in TC's on 2 different occasions. both times were up in the mountains above San Diego. Once by myself while I built my house and the second time was my wife and I while we built another house.
Each time lasted about a year and I did fine by myself and We did fine together. But I was very happy to move into the houses.
this was in the 70's and the campers did not have all the essentials. on my own I got by with a rented porta-potty that doubled as my bath house for bucket showers and I had a small 'closet outside to keep my clothes in.
The second time since there were 2 of us we built 2 8x12 sheds, one was a bath house and one was a closet.Would we have been OK with just the camper? NO!! - PhotomikeExplorer IIIFor one person I do not see a problem, after all really how much space does one person need. The TC has everything that you really need washroom, kitchen, bed.
I have a couple friends that full time in different RV's (VW van, class A) and their point is if you are in the RV and want more space, go outside! Easy to do in nice weather, harder in -30, but how true. - danorenExplorer

I suggest you try it for few months and then decide if it fits YOU.
