Anyone TC with a new RAM 3500 6.4 hemi yet?

I am wondering if anyone hauling a TC has got a new RAM 3500 dually with the new Hemi 6.4 gas engine?

How is it for power/ economy? What kind of hauling payload can you get out of this combination?

Is this available with the factory air bag suspension?

The 2014 Dodge Ram brochure pick up at the dealer, shows the gas engine having a payload capacity of about 700-900 lbs. over the Cummins Diesel.
Yet the internet information shows the opposite.
I think the brochure is correct.
Somebody probably messed up the web site which wouldn't be the first time something like this happened.

  • Everyone must be looking at a different chart than me. Gas GVWR is same as Diesel, however total towing is lower, which make sense as I would not want to tow 30K with a gas. Below is copied from Dodge site for a Gas Crew Cab, long bed, 4x4, DRW ST. GVWR is 14,000, GCWR is 23,000.

    6.4L GAS MID DUTY - ESA 6-SPD AUTO 66RFE - DFP XBS 4.10 (GVWR)14,000 6,740 7,262 4,038 3,224 5,500 9,750 (GCWR)23,000 150 20 15,570

Don't do the slider thing as that's something some sales idiot dreamed up. Go to "Ram Truck Capacity" link as shown above and click "Towing Specs" on right of page and a pdf will come up with all truck configurations and their capacities.

I was thinking of buying a gas when we bought ours but I purchased the Dodge diesel for about the same as a Ford or Chevy gas as Dodge did not offer a gas at that time. My rig is almost 19K with camper and boat and the diesel I believe is way overkill. I believe a gas would be fine.

Looked at a gas dually with 3.73? rear end.

    The gvw was 13,300

I have a picture of the sticker, but I haven't figured out how to post pics.

If you have a smart phone, join photobucket and use the app

I am a Ford guy,but went down to check out the new Ram
they had no 6.4 and every truck I looked at was made in Mexico.
I am looking at F250 now, made in Dearborn.

  • On one of the Ram forums, people were talking highly of the engine. Sure, the mileage/power isn't going to be very good compared to the Cummins. BTW, the Cummins is a cheaper option compared to other makes diesels and seem to be highly available. When I was looking the 6.4 was basically unobtainium, in a DRW in my area.

Interesting enough in the DRW Configurations Ram has a significantly lower hauling capacity (and GVWR) for the gas engine compared to the Diesel. This is very different than, for example, Ford. I have no idea why their gas DRW trucks are so low.

You can find a list, which you can adjust to be heavy duty and then rank by payload here:

    Thanks for this...

Most interesting, I wonder what reasoning they are using for those results, certainly different than most of us on here...

One would naturally think the gas engine is lighter and the payload would increase per the difference in the weight of the engines...

They seem to have it backwards...

  • the air suspension isn't available until fall.

the 14000 gvw is available according to chart at dealership.

  • I hope someone replies to this topic. I also may be in the market for newer Dodge next February and will compare gas vs. Diesel engine for sure.
