I need a 6" drop, but you made me realize I don't need a 2-piece hitch insert, area13.
Thanks. I'm going to have my local welder (really good, and as I repeatedly tell him regarding ranch stuff, way too cheap) combine my extension and 6" drop hitch into one solid 12" extended hitch.
Bonus is I'll have solid 2" stock rather than tubing. I don't trust tubing for a hitch.
I hate unnecessary weight, but that's 10# I'll happily carry.
Good thoughts, kd4upl (where do you guys get these handles?)
I'm guessing I was towing ~3500#. Not sure, though.
This was just a fabbed-up extension.
It started out with heavy-wall 2", but when that cracked I had it rebuilt with solid 2".
Bent that off road. I don't drive fast.
Hitch under truck was stock 99 Dodge. Cracked it and had it rebuilt with gussets where appropriate. That hitch was recalled by Dodge, and I took advantage, but the new one cracked.
It held up after rebuild.
24" is a whole lot of lever, I reckon.
I like the look of the hitch on the 2012 a lot better; someone smart is in charge of Ram right now, it appears to me.
