Probably as important is you probably can't get the HD option with the smaller engine so payload will be reduced when the small engine is selected.
The 2.7L EcoB comes with its own "2.7L EcoBoost Payload" package.
The nice thing is that it's available with the 6.5' Bed and SCab configuration, in which the regular HD payload package is not. But it only gets you up to 2160# Max payload, in that configuration, with no options.
I believe it also comes with the 3.73 rear end and a tow rating of 8200-8300#. - TomG2Explorer

So is the average 3/4-1 ton only good for about 60% of the rated tow rating also. That would mean I could only tow 7440lbs with my 12 Ram 2500 CTD. Not quite following your logic.
I was just using proportions. I don't happen to think that typical F-150's as found on the dealer's lots are good for towing much more than 7,000 pounds. All of this is just conjecture until we see some real world weights and experiences. I have owned F-150's, don't have any idea what your Ram is good for. - dockmasterdaveExplorerI tend to think, towing that big box, if I go about 80% of what the brochure says, I should be good to go, and still have a safety margin.
Lets hear from the "old pros". - goducks10Explorer

- APTExplorerTC as in Truck Camper? I don't believe any 2.7L equipped F-150 will have enough payload for one. Towing, it should do fine if kept below all the truck's ratings.

700 lb. won't make up for the loss of displacement but it'll still do pretty well. With the smaller V6 they have lowered the maximum trailer weight from 11,300 lb. to 8,500 (or something like that) so that should tell you something about it's capabilities. Yep, payload will be the limiting factor. But this truck would probably be a great match for a small light trailer. - TystevensExplorerI haven't seen one on the road yet, as far as I know.
Based on my experience w/ the 3.5 EB, I expect the 2.7 will tow just fine within its ratings. My 3.5 certainly gets the job done.
And no, it won't get any better mpg than anything else when towing! - skipncharExplorer700 lb. won't make up for the loss of displacement but it'll still do pretty well.
