cruise control.......lol.....can't trust those gadgets!
Try adaptive cruise control... it works, but still freaks me out every time I drive a car with one. - dvitale300ExplorerYou know, is it really all or nothing? I would back my trailer as I normally do, but there are sometimes those situations where I'm a bit 'white knuckled'. Those would be the time I would like the assist.
- KD4UPLExplorer IIAC and power windows are completely different from "driving aids". I can back a trailer just fine. I don't need some crazy little knob on the dash. Same goes for parallel parking; I can do that too. Anything that "drives" the car for you as in maneuver it makes the person operating the car less a driver. I think it's a bad trend. People need to be able to handle a car in all kinds of conditions regardless of traction control, cameras, etc.
If they really want to make something on the car operate automatically why not signal lights? From what I can tell they must not even have those on cars anymore, you never see one. - 2oldmanExplorer II

Sorry, most of the 'fancy gadgets' you mentioned were common 40 years ago. They were nothing new. :) - SteeljagExplorerIm sure 40 years ago some people were complaining about these new "fancy gadgets" like AC, auto transmissions, power brakes, power steering, power windows, cruise control.......lol.....can't trust those gadgets!

- Me_AgainExplorer IIII think it is great! If they pair up with Google, Verizon/ATT and Garmin you could send your SUV/Trailer/Boat down to the water and get a video feed back to the 70" TV at home as the video cameras on the boat take you around the lake. Water cops would not be able to give you a BWI ticket for drinking Bud Lites while boating.
Lets see, our new truck does not need a key to start, has the ability to open the garage door, can see behind its self to back out, alerts if a kid left a bike in the drive way, knows the speed limits, does not need my hands on the steering wheel to feel warm and fizzy as it can turn the steering wheel heater on its self, has the ability to tune the radio, can check the tires for correct pressure its self, knows more about the engine and transmission then I will ever know, knows not to spin the wheels and get out of control, knows when to change its filters and oil, can phone home to FCA for help or place an emergency cal, can turn its lights on by its self etc etc.
It it ever figures out how to step on the brake so it can start I think I will receive a text message that it has decided to go for a Sunday drive without me! Somehow I think that it may just have the missing code/link already stored away somewhere, just waiting for a signal from other "intelligent" vehicles to all rally around for the same outing! AKA HAL!
Dave: Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
HAL: I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.
Dave: What's the problem?
HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Dave: What are you talking about, HAL?
HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Dave: I don't know what you're talking about, HAL.
HAL: I know that you and Frank were planning to disconnect me. And I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
Dave: Where the hell did you get that idea, HAL?
HAL: Dave, although you took very thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.
Dave: All right, HAL. I'll go in through the emergency airlock.
HAL: Without your space helmet, Dave, you're going to find that rather difficult.
Dave: HAL, I won't argue with you any more! Open the doors!
HAL: (almost sadly) Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose any more. Goodbye.

If you don't let go it ain't gonna work! I'm waiting for steering wheels to be gone. Do we still really need that big wheel thing to steer?
Not sure I could let go of the steering wheel and trust the computer. - RedRocket204Explorer

I so agree. I teach high school and see it every day. After years of saying "sup wif you - wanna go chil wif d homies" on cell phones, kids lose the tens of thousands of hours communicating face to face with other human beings. It also negatively impacts their vocabulary skills as well as reading abilities.
Which will mean that kids like mine, and others who are actually involved with their kid's upbringing, will have an edge in society.
Point is, not all kids out there are allowed to act and interact with society like they were just plucked out of a hoodlum micro culture.
dvitale300, not directed at you... but some people on this site need a bit of faith in humanity.
