If were to use a hitch like this I may consider one. Never would need one with the hitch I DO use.
Ron, this picture is getting OLD!
There is nothing wrong with Reese Twin Jaw hitches that a Hacksaw and Drill will not fix!
Keep in mind I have towed my 5er (11,000#+) over 20 miles with the handle UNLOCKED of all kinds of conditions and it never dropped!!!
The design of the Jaws prevents this!
It is the Handel that can be an issue. I took the rise out of mine.

I had no issues with the height setting on my Bedsaver/16K Reese sliding hitch.
Great device for catching the pin.
The first Bedsaver I saw I actually saw it in action. Some idjit' pulled the jaws open on a guys hitch while parked at a road side factory outlet mall. As he pulled away next to me I heard the noise. The owner simply backed the truck up under the pin....closed the latch and went on down the road.
After reading this I put mine back on. Because there are idots out there that would think that was funny. - cummins2014Explorer

I have a Blue Ox Bedsaver, it does take alittle more work to hitch up but I'm used to it now. It is not absolutely necessary, however I installed it when I first got my fiver and have no regrets.
The Bedsaver does give me peace of mind. As the saying goes drops happen!
I don't know of anyone that planned to drop there rig on the bed while hitching nevertheless it happens regularly.
And it can happen with ANY hitch. - LantleyNomadI have a Blue Ox Bedsaver, it does take alittle more work to hitch up but I'm used to it now. It is not absolutely necessary, however I installed it when I first got my fiver and have no regrets.

I hope we never need it again. Yes... again. Dropped the fiver in May. $800 for a new OEM tailgate and a paint job, made us get one. Easy to install. May we never need it. We always do the pull test but something went wrong in May.

- Michelle_SExplorer IIIBlue Ox was one of the suppliers of BedSavers and they no longer make them. You might still be able to find one on the market.

I remember seeing a new Ram 2500 parked at my RV dealer one day. Beautiful blue color, but when I parked, I noticed the bed smashed from a fifth wheel drop, major damage. I bought my bedsaver that day. I'm a careful type and a career in aviation has taught me to double check everything and use a checklist when able, but that one time I was in a hurry to connect I dropped the fifth wheel. Yeh, right into the bedsaver with no damage. Cheap insurance I recommend it. Mine was installed on a Reese 16K hitch. I installed where it was a few inches lower thus not interfering with connecting the trailer.
- 100tonExplorerAs "Colo Native" stated, it does at times take a little fine tuning when hitching and unhitching. After getting dialed in to the clearence issue, I am able to use the hitch/Bed Saver with ease. To me, adjusting the landing gear is a small price to pay for the peace of mind provided by the device.
Ease of use may vary with brand of hitch. I have a SuperGlide 16,000.
