Russ did you run Delo 400 in your 01?
Yep, and as stated 10,000 mile changes, and fleetguard filters.
Thanks, I can tell by the pics. I wonder why that oil causes that to happen?
It was interesting my 98 12V I obtained with 50k the previous owner used Delo. From that point on I used AMZ/OIL 15-40. At 100k when the warranty was up I did the "Killer Dowel Pin" repair. That involves removing the front timing cover and tabbing an alignment pin that can fall out and cause damage. The inside of the cover had black streaks. At 120k we did the same on my Dad's 94 and his was a nice golden color. He started with the AMZ/OIL at there first oil change.
Now do I think a person should use an engine cleaner when using Delo??? HE!! no.
Lou I am a big fan of AMZ/OIL products and have used then since the 70's.
Best thing you can do is contact Blackstone Labs and ask for a oil sampling kit to be mailed to you and sample your next oil change. Do that and you will know the condition of your engine. - rhagfoExplorer III

Always run Delo, sometime Rotella. Have not run the synthetic. I do use Donaldson filter. I only have 88K miles on it and as I said before, just thought you could use this product as preventative but it got cleared up not to that. maybe I should go with the Amsoil next change for oil. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIRuss did you run Delo 400 in your 01?

What's wrong with your engine?
Nothing?
Then don't add anything.
They do remove deposits etc. But unless you skipped the last 5 oil changes on your truck, not sure why you'd be considering it.
If this is for an old jalopy that you're trying to unstick some rings or get the valves to close all the way again, then yes, it could help.
Nothing seems wrong on my engine, but why wouldn't you clean it out if it doesn't harm anything? Kind of like a colon cleanse :). This is why I am checking with folks.
I guarantee you there is nothing to clean out inside your engine but maybe some black streaks if you use Delo 400.
If you run quality Synthetic your engine will be even cleaner. Simply don't waste your $$$. Best Medicine is run quality Synthetic Like AMZ/OIL Signature series 15-40 and a quality Filter like the AMZ/OIL filter made by Donaldson or simply the Donaldson. - rhagfoExplorer III

Has anyone here used Engine Performance Restoration by BG Products before on your diesel engine? The claims are good but I am wondering if there really is that much benefit. It's an oil treatment which you run until warmed up and sludge is removed along with the carbon deposits.
2013 Ram 6.7, how many miles?
This is the inside of the tappet gallery on our old 2001 Ram CTD right at 300,000 miles! I we bought at 234,000 and changed oil every 10,000 miles. These were taken right after the cover was removed. Just because the oil is black it isn't a bad thing. I had my oil tested and could have gone longer than 10,000 miles easily, but I put on about 10,000 a year so it worked. - 36guyExplorerSweetLou, there is no sludge in your engine, this is not 40 years ago, modern oils have additives that prevent sludge. Pull a valve cover off any engine you can find, there will be no sludge, the junk yard is a good place to start.
- TravelinDogExplorer III'm surprised they didn't have this pic on the label.
- Grit_dogNavigatorAgree, if you had blowby or burning oil, it may be worth it. But there are enough of these (and most types of) engines running well with a pile of miles on them to tell me that this is not needed.
Keep the fuel well filtered (2 micron) and OCIs and party on. The rest of the truck will need work everywhere before the engine should need anything internally.
Cheers! - LwiddisExplorer IIOP, does the vehicle manufacturer recommend these treatments? If they don’t, I wouldn’t.
