Arctic Fox 22G

DryHeat56, thanks for posting. Those are very encouraging words! It sounds like we have similar ideas in what we want in a trailer. And like you, we also do a lot of remote camping. My wife and I are educators, so we get two months off during the summer, a week for Fall Break, two weeks during Christmas, a week for Spring Break. Not to mention 10 paid days during our working contract. This camper will be used.

We think it's a really nice setup, plus we'll be adding a 160 watt solar panel. The 22G is a little on the large side, but it will be a great fit for us. After several years of learning and understanding the RV industry, Northwood is, in my opinion, the best manufacturer with good customer support.

I ran across your thread and thought you may want some input from someone who has owned a coach like you are interested in. I have a 1999 Nash 22H which is close to the same floor plan as the Arctic Fox you are considering, except my bed is rotated slightly from the plan you are looking at. I have now owned this trailer for 16 years and it has been to Alaska, the Keys, the East coast a couple of times and mostly to small Forest Service and State park campgrounds. I can honestly say that the Nash has been absolutely rock solid for all this time. No frame issues, no structural issues, nothing. The thing just keeps going and going. I specifically did not want a slide in the trailer and have never missed having one. My wife and I spend most of our time outside the trailer when we travel/camp and feel that it is the perfect size for the remote places that we frequent. I know the Arctic Fox you are considering is probably much improved since my 1999 Nash was produced, but if it is built like my Nash, you will not be sorry for your purchase.

I can't speak to the generator option, as that was not an option when I purchased the Nash. Since I am from Tucson, the generator to run the AC is not a priority. I make it a point when I leave Tucson to always head somewhere cooler where I don't need the AC! Glad to hear you are going to get the awning. Even if you never use it, having it will be much better for resale.

I love the Nash so much that I do not even look around at getting something else. It works for us, is stored under an awning and people can't believe it is 16 years old when they see it. I take very good care of it. A fantastic product.

To be honest with you, this is a big purchase for us. Outside of a home mortgage, our philosophy is, "If we can't pay cash for it, then we don't buy it." We don't even have credit cards. HOWEVER, we can't pay cash for this Arctic Fox, therefore we are having to justify the purchase and financing. Since getting to the outdoors and traveling is a major part of our lives, we deemed this purchase as THERAPY. Seriously, owning a recreational vehicle allows us to go places and do things that we would not normally be able to do. It's good for the marriage, it's good spiritually, it's good psychologically, it's good emotionally, and it's good physically. With that being said, we are selfishly ordering this thing to fit our needs. Microwaves will be obsolete by the time we are wanting to sell it!

Oh, and we'll be passing near McPherson, Ks next week! I grew up not too far from Ottawa, Ks.

You might plan on keeping the camper a long time. If you plan on selling in the future a microwave would help resell.

The dealer said that Northwood will use the Onan 2.5 LP generator and will downsize the A/C from 13.5 to 11,000 BTU, so it will run it. He also said that the smaller A/C unit should be okay since the Arctic Fox has good roof insulation, but the generator might not run the A/C and microwave at the same time. This is not a big deal to me since we are ordering it without the microwave.

Okay, you guys win. According to my dealer, deleting the awning is not much of a savings. Northwood will allow a $200.00 credit for the deletion. :B
