I'm not sure I understand the thinking. The additional fresh water is nice but the loss of gray water capacity, especially the amount lost in the bigger 1140/1150, seems like a bigger loss. Personally I would trade some black water capacity for gray water capacity.

Bummer, gray water is what we always seem to fill up first and ends up being the reason to dump. I'd rather have added capacity to the gray and left the fresh water the same. Black water at 43 gallons seems to work for us.

I'm not aware of any built in overflow from gray to black. I kind of like the idea though. Does anybody know a camper that does that? I do know people who add a valve to the dump connector which then mixes and equalizes the tanks.

Leave the cap on the open the gray before opening the black. Shut the black first before it stops flowing. You'll be left with gray behind the cap but there are worse problems to have. You could also use a bucket to drain some gray and dump it down the toilet if you were desperate.

I carry two 42 gallon fresh tanks in my trailer and a 30 gallon rolling gray dump tank. A transfer pump in the trailer refills my TC or allows me to hose off toys before stowing them. We only extend dry camp in above freezing weather so don't worry about frozen water in the trailer and will shower outside to reduce the fill rate of the gray tank. I was never in the Navy and enjoy my long hot showers. The trailer also carries an additional 100 lbs of LPG in addition to the 60 lbs in the TC to run the generator and those hot showers.

We were spoiled with a TH prior to having the TC and this gives us similar capacities (except for that 5.5KW Onan with 40 gallon tank that could power shop tools).

When I had the bottom off my 1150 I noticed there is a large space in front of the basement drawer and behind the fresh tank that is just dead space. It is there because it represents the room gained by it's longer length compared to the 990 which used the same tanks. I bet you could add more grey capacity to the new 1140/1150 like you could on the 2010.

I always wondered what they were thinking too by making the black bigger than the grey. It was always annoying to have grey water backing up in the shower and still have unused fresh water. Ridiculous really, I hope the engineers figure it out someday or are they just catering only to resort campers now that run full hook-ups everyday?

I know my 2010 1150 grey tank didn't overflow in to the black tank even though I'd have to be really sick to fill a 43 gal black tank so they might as well have an overflow.

montecarlo31, showering outside in the summer would be fine if you don't have neighbors but in the winter I unhook my outside shower lines so they won't freeze. Icicles dangling off my nethers doesn't sound too appealing so showering inside would be a must.

Buzzcut1, when I lived in mine I could go 14 days on the 61 gal fresh I had. It sure was nice not to have to leave and find water any more often than that. Camping I could do with less like you. I have only 25 now but have plans to add more as that isn't enough.

In my perfect camper the fresh would be as large as possible and the grey would be nearly as large within a few gallons because some is going into the black tank. I think about 20 gal black would be sufficient for any length of camping I'd do.

granted it is just me and the wife in our 1055 but how do you guys go through all that water? We have 35 gallons of fresh and even after 5 days of boondocking we were not close to empty and we both Navy showered each day.
