@NRALIFR thanks for the explanation.
Got it. So I should be good then getting say the Lance 850. It's going to sit basically flush with the cab regardless if I get a long or short bed. Just depends how much more sticks out I guess.
And from my understanding, I think it's important to note that these "all-bed" campers are different than campers that can be BUILT into long bed or short bed version. For example, the Bigfoot 1500 Series has 9.5FS and 9.5FR shortbox models and the 9.5FS and 9.5FR longbox models. You cannot just mix and match these campers with long or short beds. The Lance 850, however, you can. Is that correct?
Think about it like this.
Most all campers are stable hanging out up to around 3’ past the end of the truck bed.
So obviously a 10+ long camper is too long for a short bed.
But a 9’ +/- camper will generally work in either truck, length wise.
Short bed “only” are the same as their counterparts except the rear lower “wing” area has built in storage or generator or some build out that prevent it from sliding all the way forward in a long box.
Won’t try to confuse the issue with setting a short bed only camper back some distance in a long bed, but that’s also a solution.
