@NRALIFR thanks for the explanation.
Got it. So I should be good then getting say the Lance 850. It's going to sit basically flush with the cab regardless if I get a long or short bed. Just depends how much more sticks out I guess.
And from my understanding, I think it's important to note that these "all-bed" campers are different than campers that can be BUILT into long bed or short bed version. For example, the Bigfoot 1500 Series has 9.5FS and 9.5FR shortbox models and the 9.5FS and 9.5FR longbox models. You cannot just mix and match these campers with long or short beds. The Lance 850, however, you can. Is that correct?
Why not the Lance 865? It's 500lbs lighter than the 850, the appearance and fit to my eye looks better on a short bed, and it's just 4" shorter floor length.

Yeah... After calculating how much weight I would be bringing with all my kayaks and full time living, I'm realizing if I want to avoid duellys, I need to go one step down.
I was initially keen on the 850 because it can do long bed or short bed. But I'd rather be stuck with short bed than having to go to duellys.
