are insurance rates higher for 1 ton trucks vs 3/4 ton

Anyone priced insurance rates for 1 ton vs 3/4 ton trucks?

  • I went from a 3/4t F250 to a 5500 and paid about 25% more for a truck that was 10 years newer and twice the cost of my previous. I don't think you will see much of difference due to weight but more in truck value.
  • One ton dually in a bedroom city of Houston, registration for 14,000# is $140. Or, you could register it for 10,000# for $70, as my selling dealer originally did.

  • Not sure about the insurance, but I can tell you that the REGISTRATION fee, at least in the state of Texas, is 4 times the cost.
  • Insurance industry has its own statistics to affect the premiums, so you never know .
I had AAA policy living in San Francisco suburban's and when moved to Las Vegas suburban's the premium quadrupled. :S

  • Not in my experience, it has more to do with the cost of the truck.
