Avoiding the Stinky Slinky

How many of you don't use a stinky slinky?

I started out 12yrs ago using a water pressurized 'macerator-lite' and later transitioned to the Flojet macerator. In years of camping I've never used the stinky slinky, am I alone? The macerator works well, is easy to use, and clean.

Am I alone? I need to use the macerator when dumping at home as I have a 100' run (1" hose), but I also use it at a campground dump for the clean experience. Am I missing a needed experience when dumping at campgrounds?
  • I have the FloJet macerator which I only use at home because I don't have a campground-style sewer inlet and have to pump halfway 'round the house to the drain cleanout in the backyard. Otherwise I use the stinky slinky. If I am at a FHU site I also use a hydroflush which helps wash out the stinky slinky when done. At the dump station I don't use the hydroflush if there are others behind.

I find that using the stinky slinky is faster to set up and take down although the FloJet empties the tank a little faster. And I have no problem with dumping as it is a clean operation with hardly a spilt drop and no need for any foolish gloves either. I just wash my hands after. I see no difference from going to the toilet.
  • If you are doing it right then there should be no issue holding the stinky slinky in place. There should be no after mess or product near your hands.

Please explain how you empty your tank any differently with a macerator. I had never heard of one until I came here and still don't understand other than it mashes up the "product", LOL
  • I use the stinky slinky because it is simple and easy. The only hard part is making sure there is graded properly to the drain pipe.
  • Seems to me 6 of one and half a dozen of another. Still have to clean it out at the end of the day. Cant say that the stinky slinky has ever bothered me that much that I'd have to buy a macerator. I just let gravity do its job.
  • Afraid to get your hands dirty eh? I use ice, about 20 lb after I dump. No odor, no plugs and no $150.00 pump.
