Awning

First of all, I would like to say hi to everyone. I am new to this forum. I have a 20 foot A&E Systems awning on my TT. I am having a problem getting it to open all the way. It opens until I have 1 or 2 turns left on it. Meaning the over hang never gets out. Can anyone send me some hints on how to fix this. Thanks
  • I also have an awning question. When closing the awning, one of the black knobs was loosened a little to much and fell off along with the nut that it screws into. How much of a problem do I have here? Appears that it screws through 2 c channel type metal bars. They are inside a larger c channel type bar that has solid back and it looks like I might have a big problem getting the nut back into place to screw the black knob into. Major problem or am I just over thinking this? Didn't try to open it yet to try and fix it. Manual awning that appears to be the original awning. It's a 2005 so hard to say for sure.
  • Thank you all for the help. I haven't had a chance to go camping since I posted this. But will be going this month. I will check all the suggestions for I pull down my awning and see if I'm overlooking anything one. Thanks again.
  • Could the up down lever be slipping into the roll up position before the awning is all the way down?
UNroll awning until it stops and then check the position of the up - down lever.
  • Mine stops a turn short on occasion. I usually just grab the end of the support and gently pull down. Just dont force it.
  • sounds like a job for super tech. take it in and have it looked at. I don't think you should be messing with the spring on the awning. they can be a mess of hurt is done wrong.

Hi and welcome! A couple of questions to help get this going for you....is your awning manual or electric? Do you know if this is the original or a replacement? Has any work been done on it that would effect the spring mechanism and assume you've checked that it's loosened at the knobs, right? There is a wealth of knowledge here and I feel pretty sure someone will have the answer for you. Just need a bit more info.

The awning is manual and it is the original. No work has been done to it. Yes, I checked the knobs and a few other things. I was thinking it has to much torsion on it. But I really don't know much about awnings.
  • If electric, may need adjustment. If manually operated, be sure you loosen the sliding rafter knobs before extending. If these are not loose, this will not allow the roller tube to completely unwind.
