Awning

Good noon-

I have a question, since I lost my original awning to heavy rain and the tube is bent the DW decide not to replace it,since this is the second awning that we have lost do to weather do to my negligence with other travel trailers. Our Destination travel trailer we have, we have not moved it from its original spot in over 9 years so I was wondering if I can buy one of those sun setter awning that people buy for their homes and install it to the T.T?:h The manual type of course.( Remember, this unit does not leave the property ) ( Yes we have insurance and insurance wants the dealer that is going to do the job to take pictures and send them to state farm. And the only nearest dealers claim that they are too busy and if they are to replace the awning they will have to bring the D.T.T. into the shop which means, I will have to pay for someone to tow it there and back and reset it on blocks since the unit is too heavy for my truck to tow.):M

Thank you in advance

Any other ideas are welcome

  • Just go back with a manual awning and don't forget to angle the awning. Ezypzy.

If the weather turns south put the awning up...takes 1 minute or less if you are motivated.

X3 on the mobile repair shop...check craigslist

    Thanks!

  • I have a sunsetter on my house. I think it could be installed no problem on your RV. Be aware though, sunsetter is not inexpensive. It has been a great awning though, this is it's 13th year, and it's still working well.
  • For what it is worth. I tried to add a few more screws to the awning rails as it seemed to be widely spaced. Unfortunately there was nothing to screw into except the aluminum siding.

Whatever bracing is used to support the awning rails did not run the length of the rails.

Just a note of caution when installing new awning rails.
  • Dont' know about your insurance, repair facility, or a mobile tech, but here's a chance to simplify greatly. Why not just get one, or 2 of these: Click here. Just remember to put them down when it gets real windy.

We have 2 of them we use all the time. We're not on a permanent spot, but they sure are nice to be able to move around at will.
  • Why would you think that a sunsetter would be any better than a made for RV awning. If anything it would be weaker.

Just remember to bring it in before a bad storm
  • I would just keep searching but specifically look for a mobile RV service. There has to be some in your area.
