a bomber every 55 minutes. can you just imagine the army of pilots and crews they needed just to get the planes transported to the was areas. they had many women pilots for this job and they were looked down on as inferior pilots, but they never had a crash while delivering all those planes. not just bombers but all the fighter planes too. amazing, just an amazing feat they did.
Look up some information on the Ninety Nines, the women who piloted ferry aircraft from factories to whereever the plane needed to go. They were not involved in combat. They did a great job.
About ten percent of all WWII aircraft fatalities occured on American soil, mostly involving training.
