Battery Charging

So now I'm trying to charge my two batteries. I bought a charger that has options of 2 amp, 6 amp, 10 amp (it says boost), and 55 amp battery starter. I'm thinking it wasn't the best choice.

In any case, one of the batteries has been hooked up to it for at least 36 hours with it set on 10 amp charging. It's a 75 ah battery. This seems like it is taking too long. Am I right?

    Any suggestions?

First suggestion is to answer the questions that I posed.

Then....take the battery to a repair shop or auto parts store and have it tested.
  • Unfortunately, this charger just shows a few led lights. One for charging and another for charged. The other set of lights shows whether you've selected 2a/6a, 10a, or 55a.

Thanks for the advice so far. I'll have to wait till I'm off work to check anything more.
  • Setting the charger to the 10A scale simply means that is the maximum the charger can deliver. You should have a meter showing the actual current delivery. It should be close to 0 after 36 hours. If it is indeed delivering 10A after 36 hours then go buy a new battery
  • Measure the battery terminal voltage. If it has been over 14.2 volts for 24 hours it should be charged enough to test. Hydrometer is a good test. Or take to a battery store to test. At the very least let it sit disconnected 48 hours and see if it holds 12.65+ volts.
  • The charger still shows that it isn't charged. It isn't dry and it's presumably a year or so old.
  • You have put 360 amps into a 75 amp hour battery? Your cup runneth over.
  • What leads you to believe it isn't charged? What is the battery's age? Is it dry?

    Yes probably too long.

BUT.....did you read the "manual" that came with the charger ?
Many/most of the ones like that are "manual" and won't really tell you when the charge is full.

Does yours actually have a light or meter to indicate when the charge is done ??

P.S. Hope you checked the "water" level before charging......and will check it again after.
