The other thought is to disconnect the trailer from shore power and shut the batteries off. Once a week or so plug in the trailer and turn the batteries on for a day to top off the batteries from their normal battery discharging that happens even when they are not in use.
What ya all think?
I think this is the best option. I do that once a month by running the engine and gen long enough to get them hot and recharge both sets of batteries.
It's not the best, only one of the easiest. Anytime the batteries are not receiving float voltage, the plates are sulphating. Another thing to consider is temperature. The chemical reactions inside the battery will slow down greatly when temperatures swing down below 50f. The OP lives in So Cal so that reaction will be happening 24/7.
Trojan has a lot of information on their website about the care and charging of their batteries. That would be the best source of information.
