Baxter is a very special place. Part of the Mission Statement reads; "shall forever be kept and remain in the natural wild state…shall forever be kept and remain as a sanctuary for beasts and birds”.
If you want to see Moose...you WILL see Moose in Baxter. Bears? Last time I was there a mother and Cubs walked by our tent EVERY evening.
Baxter is a cool place...but they do somewhat limit access to keep it wild.
Climbing Katahdin, and walking the Knife Edge, is quite an experience.

If Baxter really is as beautiful, protected and a sanctuary for animals then I fully support their rules. I would get the tent out of the dark corners of the closet and bring enough pain relievers for a night or two!!
