Works fine in my 2012 tho it is tempermental. You need:
1) Have tow haul mode on
2) be going 45-50 mph max
3) give the brake pedal a firm tap I mean a hard tap.
4) You may need to repeat the tap several times.
Once it kicks in it works great. I think the added a switch to turn it on directly in 2014 or 15
1) Correct, some that complain don't know that.
2) Only if you want it to shift all the way to second.
3) You must cause the speed to drop slightly with the brakes.
4) No need to repeat or brake real hard, just cause a slight reduction in speed.
The speed reduction is what tells the computer that it needs to get off its butt and help out. :)
In my opinion, the 11 to 14 trucks have enough exhaust braking for towing up to 8000 pounds. Over that, you might need to use the service brakes on some of the steepest grades.
