Really not very considerate of your fellow campers and hopefully you wouldn't do it next time.
What gives you or anyone else more right to hook up a hose to a road side water source than me? :h Using a quick disconnect fitting on my own hose allows those who may come along with a bucket or pan or pot or whatever to grab a few gallons rather than have to wait til I'm done filling my trailer tank ... I'd call that being courteous on my part. If you come along with a hose to your own trailer you can wait your turn, just as I might have also had to do. It ain't rocket science. :S
When did I say "I" had the right to do something so selfish? "I" would not hook a hose to a public spigot that others may need at any time. I would not expect those that want to fill a container to have to unhook and screw around with my hose.
You know very well that many people won't come looking for who ever has his permanent connection on there and they'll just move on. Your counting on that.
Me? I would disconnect your hose, toss it in the mud and leave it there.
Beyond that, I don't think you have the ability to understand how rude your actions are - even when it's pointed out by multiple people here.
BTW, I have been in that situation and I carry a 2.5 gallon container that I use to ferry water from the community spigot.
