Best guess as to fuel mileage on these trucks

Gang - I am trying to put a pencil to my options and as such am trying to figure out what each of the following would get as combined MPG for my spreadsheet.

In an effort to compare apples to apples, all will be 2019 models 4x4 Crew Cabs. Assumption is that 80% of miles are highway miles traveling between 60 and 70 MPH. Below are my best guesses based on the research I have done so please edit as you see fit and I will hopefully be able to hone it in from the responses.

Sierra 2500HD 6.6 Diesel: 18 MPG

Sierra 2500HD 6.0 Gas: 12 MPG

F150 3.5 EcoBoost Gas: 19 MPG

F150 3.0 Diesel: 23 MPG

F250 6.2 Gas: 13 MPG

F250 6.7 Diesel: 16 MPG


Also, probably a dumb question but would it be safe to assume that the Chevy's will perform very similarly to their GMC cousins?

Additionally, I know that I have excluded the Ram's. I'm just not a fan cosmetically. However, I am a fairly practical guy so feel free to include that information if you have first hand experience and so desire.

    5.0 Ford pickups don’t get 20-21 mpg doing 70-75mph.
    Or maybe the ones I had and every other similar truck were defective,lol.

    Remember, most men lie about 3 things. Size of the fish they caught, gas mileage of their beloved pickup and the size of their ____.

    Here's a video of Mr. Truck running his personal truck to test fuel economy of the 2nd Gen 3.5EB with the 10 speed transmission. For some reason he was using 91 Octane fuel. His hand calculated fuel economy was 23mpg.

    I get about 20-21 in my 2016 F150 screw 4x4 with 3.31 gears on the highway. I get about 16.5 around town. I don't have any "real" towing figures as we now have a pop up so it does pretty good (14mpg).

    Yes, that is hand calculated. No hypermiling needed ??

    2019 F350 6.2 4.30

    12.9 mpg with 2300 miles on it, 70% highway, 15% towing 6k, and 15% city. All miles up/down CO mountain highways.

    Towing was around 7-8 mpg. Highway between 13-14

    I would check out fuelly.com and see what results you get. Typically that is all hand calculated mpg based on user input.

    My actual experience with GMC:

    2009 2500 HD, 6.0L gas - 6-7 mpg towing and about 12 mpg not towing.
    2013 2500 HD, 6.7L diesel - 11.4 mpg towing and 17 mpg not towing.
    2018 3500 HD, dually, 6.7L diesel - 12.6 mpg towing and 18.2 mpg not towing.

    The 2009 numbers are my best guesses from memory. The 2013 and 2018 numbers are actual hand calculated average mileages with 194 tanks of fuel in the 2013 and 38 tanks of fuel in the 2018.

    Bottom line Sooner, you have to first decide whether you want a half ton or a HD.
    If you go HD, go diesel for your high mile, highway use. Not only do you get 2x the power, mileage will be consistently better period and your resale will be heads and tails above a high mile gasser HD in 3 years with 100k miles. You won't be out any money purchase price vs resale price (for the added expense of the diesel option).

    If you want best fuel mileage AND a 1/2 ton, get a new baby diesel. If you want the most power in a 1/2 ton, get the biggest or best gasser from your favorite grille logo. 6.2 GM, 3.5 Eco Ford or 5.7 Hemi Dodge.

    I am wondering why you didn't consider the 2.7 Ecoboost. It has the best fuel cost in the Ford lineup and nearly as good of performance as the 3.5, just not as much towing capacity. My brother gets about 25mpg from his at 68mph on the interstates.
