Not me..LOL..I once walked out 10 miles wearing a brand new pair of cowboy boots and have a minor scar today from it..(laffin).Stuck a CJ-5 with a Warn winch without anything or anyone around for miles and nuttin to hook the winch to right in the middle of the MF of the Boise river towards Atlanta..

I now always have tennis shoes in my rig..Awe..The days of fun..Fond memories..

Some folks won't answer a simple direct question.

I'm not current but when I hauled for a living we had to move heavy trailers around muddy construction work sites. Chains and tiow straps work great if the recovery truck can get traction...if not then we also had kinetic straps so the recovery truck could get up momentum and jerk the recovered vehicle out or untill it had enough traction to move.

I can't remember brand names but the first one came from a 4wd shop in Lubbock TX while on a work site there. It worked great.....till we made a work site up north in Nebraska with below zero temps. Dang strap broke like a old rubber band.

Had to call a wrecker service. His truck had a 400 foot spool so it was a easy winch job for him.
He had kinetic straps and recommended that brand for really cold temps. This was 35+ years ago and I don't remember brand names from some thing we didn't use every day.

Point is make sure what ever brand you decide on it can work in zero weather up north and in the sunny south. Let google be your friend when searching and good luck.

You have to understand how the forum works.
When you can find real expert in almost everything, the forum is also flooded with trolls or plain scammer promoting their youtube ratings or whatever.
That has good sides or as you experienced bad sides as any question will be hijacked with all kinds of reviews and experience.
Takes some psychology how to get your question addressed by its value.

Look at OK off road, they have several different straps

As a few people on this thread pointed out - in their opinion (and my opinion) both a row strap and a Kinetic rope can be useful in different situations in recoveries. I am fortunate enough to be able to afford both (in addition to other recovery gear I will carry)

To clarify - I will not be doing serous overlanding or off roading.

So my question only ever was, and is - looking for recommendations for Kinetic Ropes. (NOT if I should buy one, but what one to buy)

I think you missed the point of this article. Don't use a tow strap, use a recovery strap, and beware tow straps labeled recovery straps.

I am going to add to the chorus and tell you to buy a 3" x 30' strap. I have used all kinds of ropes for recovery and none but the really huge barge ropes really did the job like a 3" strap. Call it a recovery strap or a tow strap if you want, but they do stretch and they are made for what we're discussing. Replace it when the sun or dirt in the fibers compromises its strength, which will happen with both straps and ropes. You might be reluctant to throw out a $200+ rope but I bet you won't feel the same way about a $40 strap.

You need to watch the show before posting about it. Their show is 95% about recovery, that is the only interesting part about it. Any idiot can drive the tow truck back to the shop.

I've been heavily involved in offroad since the early 70's. I have participated in hundreds of offroad recoveries. I have never once seen one of those stretchy ropes used on the trail for anything. 99% of the time the equipment used for offroad recovery is some combination of winches, recovery straps, tree straps and d-rings.

But, its your money, buy what you want.

Yes that is a comparison of tow strap vs recovery strap. Know the difference and use them each appropriately for the situation.

I carry a 2" recovery strap (not tow strap) and have never used it and hope not to. Not sure I see a big difference between recovery strap and recovery rope.
