Yeah, many trailer mfg offer the LT as a upgrade option.
In fact Carriage Domani at 11500 lbs offered a 20" P tire as a option.
I personally have no problems getting a ST or P or LT tires for any of my trailers with a full warranty with the dealer and mfg blessing.
Now if I had a agenda or was a complete newby and backed a dealer/manufacturer into the legal liability corner of a particular question like "I want to replace a 3500 lbs rated ST tire with a 3042 lb LT tire" then they would have to say no.
Some folks have a agenda of scaring others away from a particular brand or tire with the old legal liability lawyer talk. Nothing new there.
Other folks are more interested in recommending the "best options" possible for a member asking for tire help.
Except you know that isn’t what happened Jim… I backed no one into a corner and asked no such question… and I have no agenda to push any brand, but have said at this point there is only one brand of ST tire I would use… I haven’t been critical of the LT tire or its use on a trailer…
I am critical of the manufactures that are so worried about the old legal liability that their many lawyers won’t allow them to say it’s ok to use the LT tire on your trailer, or they would… there in the business of selling tires… still they don’t…
Look these are big companies in the business of selling tires, they have a full legal staff if they wanted you to use their LT tire on your trailers it would be easy information to find on their web-site and in their catalogues, and the only reason it wouldn’t be and isn’t is because of the risk it would add…
Or I suppose you could look at it as industry collusion or backhanded deal between the tire and trailer industries to build, buy and push cheap tires…
If they are so concerned about the risk which equates to legal liability issues why shouldn’t I worry about them??? Simple question…
to say a simple question backs them into a corner and leaves them no options is laughable… if true they are incompetent nink-kin- poops…
If I asked if I could replace a 3500 lbs. rated ST tire with a 3042 lb. LT tire, why would they not give the answer “no you would have to use a LT tire rated for 3500 lbs. or above”???
Jim your assertion that you need to treat these guys gently and not box them in must be very flattering to the guys… :B:B:B
“If your really interested in using LT tires don't back the tire makers or their dealers into the liability corner. “
