Best Tires?

Hi everyone;

I'm wondering about tires.

I just bought an '05 Ford Excursion Diesel. It has A/T (all terrain) tires on it. I'm pretty sure the closest to "off road" I'll get will be gravel roads in the campground.

So I'd like to change the tires to good towing tires. Comfortable, quiet, and with strong sidewalls for heavy loads. Decent tread wear warranty would be nice too!

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
  • Depending on what you do with the truck....like plowing etc. you may want to consider the Goodyear Wrangler AT Adventure. It is a new 60,000 mile tire from Goodyear, out last September. Got good reviews so I tried them and have been very happy. Great winter tires, and a very stable, quiet towing tire (about 1500 miles towing so far). They are available E rated and have Kevlar and steel belts.
  • Michelin LTX M/S2. Hands down, the best tire I have ever had.

About 750 miles short of 80,000 on my last set before I replaced them with the same tire. Actually my others were LTX M/S, not M/S2. M/S2 is the latest tire in that model. I was told longer life on them.

These tires are really marvelous, fantastic in the snow, rain and any conditions. Quiet on the road, and a comfortable ride.

IMO, they just don't make a better tire.

I reskinned my dually for about $1450., tax in. 6 of them.
  • We just bought tires for our 2012 Avalanche

    Michelin LTX MS 2

My hubby shopped around and found these to be the best. Best pricing $1200 Canadian incl taxes and installation.
  • Do a search .
After sifting through the name calling you will find that the Michelin Highway Tread in a load range E will be at the top .
There are a few Michelin haters on this forum but they are wrong .
The other top picks are Bridgestone Duravis R500 , Continental .
All of these are high priced and people pay it because they are better and last longer than the also rans.
Consumer Reports tested tires in the November 2013 and Nov 2012 issue .
Continentals and Michelin were the top rated in those tests .
I have a set of Michelin LTX highway tread in a size of 265/75R16 load range E on my Duramax with 60,000 miles on them .
They are not quite to the wear bars .
I will be in the market this summer for new tires , too .
Because I kept my Duramax a long time , I was able to get my money out of these Michelins .
  • I don't know about the best but this is what I have on my truck. Clicky

I have around 40K on them and they are about half way worn out. They are designed to be a long lasting street tire.
