My 2wd Ram is totally undriveable in the snow with the Firestone Transforce HT factory tires. I been doing weeks of research for an all terrain tire, or mounting snow tires on extra rims for the winter.SNOW TIRES....expensive and extra used rims and tpms sensors total over $700....$225 for two used wheels, $440 for two tires, and $70 for two tpms sensorsSeems to be smarter to just buy a new complete set of AT tires.I had decided on the General Grabber AT2, but they dont come in my size...ughI am very interested in the BF Goodrich AT KO, butbI have read hundreds of mixed reviews.Most folks say they have had many sets, they are great in snow, wet and sand (most agree they are not great in deep mud) and wear well.Some folks say they are******in snow, wear out in 25,000 miles, and are way over rated, and cause up to 3 mpg drop in gas mileage.Can anyone point me I n the right direction on the KOs?Or is there another choice that would do the job? Thanks in advance....

My experience was that the tires are excellent when new, and continue to be great for a long time. In my case, they lost most of their winter traction LONG before they wore out. They still had thousands of street legal miles on them when I replaced them. They are heavier than most tires too which contributes to the mileage claims. My mileage dropped off about 1 mpg when I put them on, but that was switching from P rated tires to E rated tires. One thing I think really benefits them is siping. I wonder if I had them siped again later that maybe I could have gotten another year or two out of them.So... Does your two wheel drive have a locking or limited slip rear end? If not, I would consider adding one too. Otherwise, I would consider studded snow tires and lots of weight in the bed.

I had KOs on my '03 Ram. I didn't realize how much I liked them until I tried changing to Hankooks.That said, my typical mileage out of them was around 40,000 miles (I have a hard time believing those claims of 100,000 miles on a HD diesel truck), and they weren't anything special in the snow in 2wd.IMO, if you want something that is going to make your truck do well in the snow, spend the extra $$ and get a real snow tire.

Snow tires.. on cheaper steel wheels. forget the sensors. and if you do not already have it ... limited slip rear end..I ordered my Ram with limited slip and a manual transmission...

I was quoting the cheapest steel wheels used that I could find....new ones ard 265 each!I would buy the tpms sensors because I dont want my dash flashing at me all winter, and they are the cheapest part of the conversion.plus, I have been thinking of campgrounds with sand, mud, wet grass, etc, etc. The firestones Lmost left me stranded in my backyard in wet grass....awful.

Zogg, Glad to hear the new tires are performing better than the old ones. I've had the BFG's on a Toyota 2wd years ago and with weight in the bed it would really plow thru the snow. BTW, lets see some pictures of the new tires on the truck.

I have them on an AWD Astro van (225/75/16 E) and like them for their intended purpose. I drive a lot of rock and gravel and these have 3 ply sidewalls that just survive better down here. I've driven them in light snow a few times and had no issues. I've heard they don't do well on ice. Stiffer sidewalls make for a noticeable stiffer ride.

It's a tough heavy tire and rides accordingly (heavy is why they hold up better). I doubt I'd buy them for just "snow" tires. Too many better options. If I hadn't had problems with side wall punctures I'd probably not have gone with these.

They make this tire in a D rated 14" I'd sure consider for my next 14" trailer tires.. (-:}

No, I did not read all the replies. Hope you enjoy yours. They can really take some abuse and for me, that's worth some trade off.

BFG AT KO's are a decent all-terrain, until it gets icy, then they are possibly the worst out there. Something about them, just lets them slide like crazy, it's very dangerous (and yes, my tires are aired down to 45 psi when not towing), and mine are brand new. My truck sees limited mileage in the winter, so I'm living with it.

All other conditions, I like the tire, mud, snow, gravel, pavement, very nice tire.

Happy with my BFG AT KO's on my 05 Jeep TJ unlilited.

My son liked them so much he bought a set for his 2010 Colorado.

So, I opted to buy the AT KOs, and I am really happy with them so far. I bought them at Tirebuyer and got free shipping for under $800....not bad.

On the way to Walmart to have them installed, I backed out of my driveway (there was 1/2" of packed snow on the road) and actually slid into my neighbor's front yard (about two feeet) because the lousy Firestone Transforce tires had absolutely NO ability to stop the truck. I pumped the brakes, held the brakes solid, and the darn truck was on its own....I had no control.

After I had the BF Goodrich tires installed, I sought out an icy patch in a near by parking lot....got up to speed and pumped the brakes, and came to a reasonable stop....slid a little, but was on ice.

Had a light snow of about an inch and had absolutely no trouble starting or stopping.

I cannot believe how absolutely dangerous the Transforce tires are....cost me $800 but I can now drive the truck....good grief!!!
