Interesting article on miles per "gallon" of CNG. CNG sold at filling stations is priced in dollars per "Gasoline Gallons Equivalent" or GGE, so the mpg is the same as gasoline.
But it doesn't change the reality that natural gas still has less energy yield than gasoline. It's simple chemistry.........CNG is becoming 'sexy' yet again because it is perceived as a suitable substitute for petroleum based fuels, less carbon polluting, cheaper, and plentiful due to 'fracking' technology that has allowed producers to access deposits previously thought to be inaccessible.
