GJ, always good to get in there with your own hands if you have the time and inclination. Sounds like you have a plan and it will definitely be a learning experience.
Thanks for the info on the 1181/91. There is a 2007 1181 for sale about an hour from me and I plan to take a look at it. The owner says it has the aluminum frame. I also heard about some quality control issues on the early aluminum frames, so that is something to watch for. Probably not good for off roading the early ones.
Yep, water is a wonderful and horrendous substance. They say it can't run uphill, but sometimes I question that.
I'll keep an eye out for your restoration. I am currently building an airplane (I'm the 8th year of a 3 year project) so I haven't needed more build projects.
