Bigfoot (2 negative battery ground wires???)

I will check it out.

The reason i ask is i am going to install a Victron monitor with their 500amp shunt and they say ALL negatives run through the load side of the shunt and the other end of the shunt runs to the Negative most battery terminal.

I'm a little late, but could that extra ground wire go to one of your tiedowns? I have 3 wires connected to my forward drivers side tiedown.
I asked here and was told ground wires.

I never liked the idea of black and white wires connected directly to the battery in an RV. That’s just asking for trouble. Some day Murphy’s Law is going catch up with you, and the magic smoke is going to be released.

This is a picture of the wires that used to be in the battery box of my TC. Note that I wrapped colored tape around the black and white wires to indicate that the black wires go to the “+” side and white goes to the “-“ side of the battery. Another thing I didn’t like were how many wires were entering the battery box. What a mess!



When I was doing another project I decided to fix all that. I ran red/black “0” awg wires from the battery to some red/black bus bars just outside the battery box, and moved all the wires that used to connect directly to the battery to them.



Now the only wires that enter the battery box are red/black, and there’s no confusion about what goes where. The only devices that bypass the buss bars and connect directly to the camper battery are the Trimetric panel and Redarc DC-DC charger.

The RV WORLD wiring is usually BLACK for hot and WHITE for Ground... The RV World follows the house wiring codes...

The Problem is the RV World incorporates a BATTERY so you will find all kinds of mixing wire colors as things are used for both Automotive and RV's worlds...

Then if you pick up a New To You trailer you will have no idea what the previous owner has added...

You just have to trace out the wiring and see where they go in most cases...

Usually not hard to trace the battery wiring out... I always note on the battery case where the NEG TERMINAL is located and then wire accordingly...

I like to use the HEAT SHRINK TUBING at the terminal ends and either write on the labels or use a color I know what is what... I also want all of my terminal connections using the ring terminals.

I'm not an expert in this area but from my limited experience, RV wiring is only similar to household wiring for the 120v AC side of the house. On the DC side, at least in my own camper I'm fairly certain (camper is in storage so I can't verify) that black is still ground like it is for automotive.

Do you have a generator?

Maybe it goes to the camper plug that connects to your truck? Disconnect it from the battery and see if it's common to the truck's ground or common to the camper's ground.

Never hurts to grab your multimeter and check the wires for continuity back to the dc diistribution panel. That will tell you for sure. Battery disconnected of course.

The white 10 wag wire, and black 8 ga thicker wire marked negative go to battery negative. Red wire 8 ga goes to battery positive.
