Yessir, they had some 3000 models several years ago that didn't have the traditional Bigfoot clamshell design which allowed for the implementation of a slide.

They have one at the lot in Phoenix at Tomscamperland. I stopped and looked at it when I was on vacation and it is massive in person.

IMHO, 10 years from now the 2012 Bigfoot's value wouldn't be much different than any unit you could order at present "with the exception of a unit that has a slide MAYBE". With that said, the holdover 12 Bigfoot, a new pontoon & not having to buy a new truck...........well, I'd be hard pressed to go any other route than the one you have chosen!

As for me regarding the Bigfoot vs a Lance or Artic Fox that has a slide....... well I guess I'm just going to have to take a trip west & look them over in person "there are virtually no TC dealers in the Midwest". I do like the calm shell design of the Bigfoot, But the extra room of a Lance or A Fox with a slide adds another twist in the equation. Like others have mentioned, I do believe that moving parts & pieces are weak points or possible problem area's, but without looking at them in person, I just can't make a informed decision. I also have to see how user friendly the interior of a slide unit is when the slides aren't deployed too.

Just curious, I've only seen pictures of the "Fox Landing", so I'm unsure what you meant in your statement regarding it? From browsing thru the pictures on their web site, it looks rather nice, BUT in real life I might have a different opinion. Please elaborate.

The factory is about 5 minutes down the road from us. The tours are very cool and the clamshell design sets them apart in terms of integrity and being weather tight etc. kinda like two boats joined in the middle. I was not a fan of the slide models but definetely like the 10.4 and 10.6 floor plans. Both gave optional generators. I don't see a truck camper in my future but if did I would be looking at the Bigfoot or the Arctic Fox 990, but for different reasons.

The two shortbed campers I'm looking at (Lance 855S and the AF 811) both have generators, decent slide-out, and decent capacity for the tanks. A few years ago I drove my friend's Bigfoot camper from Portland, OR to Santa Fe, NM. My friend was getting married in Santa Fe and wanted his camper for the honeymoon but didn't want to drive it to the wedding. Anyway, after driving his Bigfoot for about a week, it was my opinion that compared to my Lance of the same year, his Bigfoot had much nicer cabinets, flooring, bed, window shades, etc. On the other hand, the basic features such as refrigerator, cooktop, oven, microwave, sink, shower, water heater, grey tank, black tank, etc. were pretty much the same as my Lance. And the Bigfoot with full basement was so much taller than my Lance that it needed a dangerous accordion style step feature which felt like I was going to die every time I climbed it.

All things considered, I would rather have my "Chevrolet" Lance than his "Rolls Royce" Bigfoot, especially since my Lance cost about half of his Bigfoot.

Just my opinion.

They are all nice campers but to me the Bigfoot stands out as being a bit different as it is a non-slide camper. That wouldn't work for us as we go off camping to often with uncertain weather and sometimes end up spending significant time in the camper. I've heard nothing but good about the clam shell construction.

As others have noted the tank capacity is lower too. Again, depending on how you use it this may not be a problem and they are not small capacities. I'm assuming it has duel batteries (I couldn't tell from the web site). If it didn't that would be a show stopper for me..

Good luck. It's a nice position to be able to make this choice. I've never heard of an ability to get a replacement cost policy on a camper. I wonder if I could find that around here (and what it would cost)

Not that is makes much difference but I would take the same Bigfoot, keep the truck, and after living on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean for my whole life I would look for a "real" boat :)
