I've noticed people saying that an f450/550 is needed for the heaviest truck campers?? You guys realize that the f-350 dually has a higher payload right?

Hello, New Person. Greetings from someone that does not now own a truckcamper but aspires to do so and is here to learn.In that spirit:What the heck are you talking about?

I'm currently looking at 550's with GVWR's over 19k lbs. 450's are about 16k lbs which are closer to 350's. The 450 will typically have a better GCWR than a 350 even though the GVWR may be close.BTW: There are two flavors of the 350 and 450. One is pickup based while the other is chassis cab. There are differences that you should look into before ever making a blanket statement about one these models without specifying.

Trust me My 350 was nowhere near that.As to need, well you may not need the 450/550 but you want it. I have had both. Camper rides much better on the 550 and is a much better set up. The 350 was just enough truck to get the job done. The 550 gets it done with a WIDE margin of safety. Many differences in my 2 trucks. Brake size 14 in Disc's, tire size. 19.5 inch H rated and tires rated at 4900 lbs each, Dana 135 rear end, things like that. Just my 2 cents.

apparently the OP has never owned any of the truck that he is now the expert on.

Probably talking about the F450's. Since what, 2013? or so Ford took off the 19.5 wheels and reduced the payload capacity of the F450's so that the diesel version of the F350 could haul slightly more weight (depending on trim) and the gas F350 were rated substantially higher in payload.I believe for 2015 you can now order the old F450 as a F350 (under some sort of some sort of package ncluding the short turning radius) as well as the original version of the F450 with the 19.5 wheels and greater payload.

Yes, some colors do cost more. Must be because they haul better. ;) Or, maybe it's because they match the color schemes of more trailers and truck campers.

Well I have a white F550. I can assure you it hauls way way more than silver or grey. What exactly is the difference between silver and grey

My 2006 2500 CTD 4x4 long bed was a kidney basher right off the lot stock.... Now that I added extra leaf and airbags it is even worse. Funny thing though the 19.5 visions and 19.5 tires did not make ride worse?

The F450 King Ranch I had rode good (my wife's words). The Kodiak will need some work (l won't repeat those words). Got rid of the Ford because of the poor emission design (6.4L) and having to pull the cab for any engine work. You can never have too much truck when hauling/towing. My take is that once your into a dually they all get within a few MPG of each other. Just pick a flavor.
