I've noticed people saying that an f450/550 is needed for the heaviest truck campers?? You guys realize that the f-350 dually has a higher payload right?
I had my caribou 5000 lb loaded TC on my 94 F350 and it now resides on my 99 F550.
Not sure where you are getting your information but the GVWR on my 550 is 19,500 lbs. Trust me My 350 was nowhere near that.
As to need, well you may not need the 450/550 but you want it. I have had both. Camper rides much better on the 550 and is a much better set up. The 350 was just enough truck to get the job done. The 550 gets it done with a WIDE margin of safety. Many differences in my 2 trucks. Brake size 14 in Disc's, tire size. 19.5 inch H rated and tires rated at 4900 lbs each, Dana 135 rear end, things like that.
Just my 2 cents.
