Bit the bullet - floor replacement

The floor had been stained for years but I couldn't figure out where it was coming from until last spring. The culprit was a cracked drain collar in the tub drain. Well, we got our TT back from Harold's RV Center in Bath, PA a couple of weeks ago. The entire bathroom, refrig & galley had to come out, plus the furnace, sofa and (as I found out later) the dinette.

OK, it was incredibly expensive, :E BUT I now have what looks like a brand new trailer. In fact, better than new because when everything was reinstalled it was done with much more attention to detail than Coachmen in the assembly process. MANY years on the road ahead of us!!! :C:B:B

Me, too. And in the meantime I'm hoping the cost of trailers with super-light composite building materials comes down into the affordable range (for us) by the time I need to retire the Coachmen.
  • Makes sense to me, I hope you get another 13 years. Look at it this way, that was less than $425 a year.
  • Thanks so much!! I think it was probably money well spent. You know what you have and a new trailer would have been about 20 thousand. OUCH:E Your appliances should last for years to come, my 1980 trailer that I used to own still has the original appliances in it. You'll be fine! Enjoy
    Happy camping, Bill

I was wondering if anybody would ask. :W

Answer - about $5,500. Included the removal and reinstallation of all of the above mentioned items and associated wiring & plumbing, removal of the rotted floor, replacement with new subfloor, new vinyl flooring (entire trailer, not just the afflicted area), extensive caulking in the bathroom (all seams & fixtures) and along the joint of the galley and floor, extensive caulking at roof (front & rear caps), exterior lighting fixtures and exterior appliance fittings and utility fixtures. All systems (gas, water & electric) powered up/pressurized and tested before delivery. The pattern in the flooring is ram-rod straight with respect to the galley & dinette. A new power supply is not included in that figure

To some, this may be an exorbitant amount of money to spend on a 13-year-old coach BUT with a son in college, a new trailer was totally out of the question. DW has a strong attachment to this TT as well, I guess because our kids "grew up" in it. Since underframe, running gear, walls roof and interior are all in top condition, I got essentially a new trailer for that money. My only concern now is appliances, some of which may be nearing the end of their useful life.
  • How much??? :@ I'm sure others will want to know. I know there are a couple of other people that are contemplating the same repair. Thanks, Bill
  • Ya know, I didn't even think to take any! I don't have any "before" pix, either. Let's just say it was a huge, dark, ugly stain, and the bathroom floor was rubbery.......
