I made a simple wand flusher out of 1/2" PVC and a plug on the bottom that I drilled two 1/8" holes in. The other end has a simple threaded 3/4" pipe fitting on it which attaches to the hose. The pressure that comes out of it is incredibly strong and breaks stuff loose easily. I have my wife watch the gauge while I aim for the sensors and they work perfectly after that.
I also use the built in flush but using the wand a couple of times a season does a more thorough job.
