I only use my black tank flush at the end of the year when I'm winterizing and will be storing the black tank empty. That said, only my last 3 rigs have had a tank flush installed so most of the time the end of the year as been dump, add water to tank and dump again as my winterization prep. For the most part, I've never seen a reason to flush the tank during camping season. I put a couple bowls of water in the tank after draining, which sloshes while driving, and keeps the tank from drying out. In addition most of the time the campground I'm in doesn't have a dump so I end up driving a fair bit prior to dumping which really liquefies the stuff in the tank which helps in getting everything to flow right out when the valve is opened. It all seems to come out okay, and doesn't seem to require anything special to keep it working.
